What you are applying for
Malaysia has two quite different work routes. Professionals come on an Employment Pass, which the employer applies for through the Immigration Department's Expatriate Services Division and the MYXpats Centre. Workers in manufacturing, construction, plantation, agriculture and services come on a Visit Pass (Temporary Employment), often called PLKS, against a quota the employer must have had approved first.
For professionals, it turns on the job and the salary band — Malaysia revised its expatriate salary policy from 1 June 2026. For workers, it turns on whether the employer really holds an approved quota, and Malaysia has restricted new foreign worker intake at times since 2024. A “Malaysia work visa” sold in Pakistan with no approved quota behind it is a fraud, and nobody legitimate sells a job offer or a visa.
Most refusals come down to one of four
- 01An approved quota
- 02The right salary band
- 03The FOMEMA medical
- 04Staying with your employer
