How to apply, and how long it takes

In the order it happens. Each stage waits on the one before it, so the date you start decides the date you finish. Ranges, not promises — the mission owns the clock.

  1. 1–3 days

    Apply on the eVISA portal

    Apply through the Immigration Department's official portal, malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. Upload your passport, photograph, ticket and hotel booking, and pay online.

  2. Check every detail

    Your name and passport number must match the passport exactly. The portal has a live chat, open around the clock, for problems with an application.

  3. 2–10 working days

    Print the eVISA

    The eVISA arrives by email. Print it and check its validity — a single-entry visa is normally valid for three months from issue.

  4. Before you fly

    Submit the MDAC

    Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online before you travel. It is separate from the visa, and you need both.

  5. Carry proof of the trip

    Take printed copies of the eVISA, return ticket and hotel booking, and evidence of your funds. Immigration at the airport can ask for any of them.

  6. On arrival

    Immigration issues a short-term social visit pass for the purpose of your visit. It is extended only in special circumstances, such as illness or an accident, and then with a confirmed return ticket.
