QUICK ANSWER

How much does a Malaysian student visa cost from Pakistan, and how long does it take?

EMGS charges MYR1,728 to process a new application, plus MYR159 for the visa approval letter, and the Student Pass costs MYR60 with a MYR20 visa fee for Pakistani nationals; the medical screening and insurance are extra. EMGS says it processes student visa applications in 14 working days, so allow 2–4 months before your intake.

Checked on the official sites on 13 October 2026. Fees and times change, so confirm them on the linked page before you pay. Visa centre charges and any consultant's fee are extra.

What you are applying for

Malaysia's student visa is a Student Pass. Your university applies for it through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), the Immigration Department issues an electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL), and — because Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Malaysia — you then get a single-entry visa to travel. The pass itself is issued after you arrive and pass a medical.

The visa process is quick and largely handled by the university. The real decisions are about the institution: whether it is approved to take international students, whether your programme is accredited, and — at a branch campus — whether the degree you receive is the parent university's own. Those are what count when you bring the degree back to Pakistan.

Most refusals come down to one of four

  1. An approved institution
  2. An accredited programme
  3. Documents EMGS can verify

Is this the right guide?

Who it is for

Applying on the wrong visa is one of the quickest ways to a refusal, so read both lists before anything else.

You’re in the right place if you are

  • Holding an offer from an approved institution

Students with an offer from a Malaysian public university or an approved private institution.

  • Choosing a branch campus

Students choosing a branch campus of a British or Australian university in Malaysia.

  • A master's or PhD student with family

Master's and PhD students who want to bring their family.

Step by step · with timings

How to apply, and how long it takes

In the order it happens. Each stage waits on the one before it, so the date you start decides the date you finish. Ranges, not promises — the mission owns the clock.

START TO FINISH2–4 monthsbefore your intake
  1. First

    Check the institution and programme

The university must be allowed to take international students, and your programme should be accredited on the Malaysian Qualifications Register. At a branch campus, confirm in writing that the certificate will be the parent university's own degree.

  2. Accept the offer; the university applies

Your university submits the application to EMGS with your documents. You must be outside Malaysia when it is submitted, and you can follow its progress on the EMGS website or app.

  3. Allow 3–6 weeks

    EMGS screening and the eVAL

EMGS checks your academic documents and sends complete applications to the Immigration Department for the eVAL. Download it from the EMGS portal once it is issued.

  4. Days to 2 weeks

    Get your single-entry visa

Pakistani passport holders must apply for a single-entry visa on the official Malaysia eVISA portal after the eVAL is approved. Apply only there, not through look-alike websites.

  5. Within 7 days

    Arrive and pass the medical

Follow the university's arrival arrangements and complete the post-arrival medical at an EMGS panel clinic within 7 days of arriving.

  6. 2–6 weeks

    Student Pass endorsement

After you pass the medical, the university submits your passport to the nearest Immigration office and the Student Pass is issued. Keep it valid, and renew it through the university before it expires.

Why Malaysia student visa applications are refused

The grounds that come up most on files from Pakistan. Most of them can be dealt with before you submit.

  • An unapproved institution or programme

An institution that is not approved to enrol international students, or a programme that is not accredited.

  • A passport short of 18 months

A passport with less than 18 months' validity, or incomplete copies.

  • Documents EMGS cannot verify

Academic documents that EMGS cannot verify, or results that do not meet the programme's entry requirements.

  • An unofficial visa website

Applying for the single-entry visa through an unofficial website, or travelling before it is issued.

  • Failing the post-arrival medical

Failing the post-arrival medical, after which the Student Pass is not issued.

  • Immigration security checks

A problem in the Immigration Department's security checks, including an earlier overstay in Malaysia.

  • Already been refused?

Send us the refusal letter before you do anything else. It states the grounds, and they decide whether applying again is worth it or would just cost you the fee a second time.
